Royal Swinkels — From Barley to Beer: Optimizing Malt Blends with Gurobi at Holland Malt
A real-world production challenge — optimizing malt blends for quality, cost, and capacity. Royal Swinkels will share their business case, their transition from open-source tools, and the solution they use today with Gurobi.
Pieter Meeuws, Data Scientist, Royal Swinkels
15:45
Doing the Math — Including Employee Satisfaction in Workforce Scheduling
Alliander, one of the major Dutch Distribution System Operators, has developed a new tool to create workforce schedules for its mechanics. In this talk, Doing the Math will explain how they use Gurobi's optimization technology to create not only more business value but also schedules that better reflect the mechanics' preferences.
Bernard Zweers, Optimisation Modelling Consultant, Doing the Math
Tomar Kusters, Business Consultant, Alliander

Gurobi Optimization — Tuning Gurobi for Real-World Impact: Heuristics-Powered Optimization
Finding high-quality feasible solutions quickly is a key challenge in real-world optimization applications. Gurobi is equipped with a rich set of heuristics that enable rapid solution generation and improvement to strike the balance between time-to-good-solutions and proof-of-quality. This talk will explore heuristics as an integral part of Gurobi's solving strategy and demonstrate how certain non-default settings can drastically reduce the time-to-first-solution on certain models. Join us to discover how Gurobi makes advanced mathematical optimization a practical and effective tool for real-world decision-making.
Ronald van der Velden, Manager of Technical Account Management EMEA, Gurobi Optimization
17:15
Ministry of Finance — Optimizing the Dutch Tax System
The Ministry of Finance is experimenting with a new method that can contribute to reform the Dutch tax system. They use Gurobi’s optimization technology to be able to find a new taxsystem using predefined goals, such as simplifying the taxsystem, while preserving specific constraints, such as budgetary or income-specific constraints. While still in validation stage, they are happy to present their case.
Dick van der Sluijs & Romee Lind – Data Scientists at Ministry of Finance
17:45
Closing Remarks, Q&A and Networking Reception
We’ll close the day with a brief Q&A session. Then, unwind with drinks and snacks while connecting with fellow attendees, and continue the conversation at our hourlong Networking Reception.
The event will end at 19:00.
